Tameika Garrett-Ward: A Proven Leader for East Orange
Councilwoman Tameika Garrett-Ward is a lifelong East Orange resident, a proud graduate of East Orange High School, and a dedicated public servant with over 35 years of service to her community.
From her first job in the city's Summer Youth Employment Program to working many years as a lifeguard and in water safety instruction, and now serving as Councilwoman, Tameika has always put East Orange first. A proud alumna of Montclair State University and St. Peter’s University, she holds degrees in Political Science and Education Administration.
As a District Leader and member of the Essex County Democratic Committee, Tameika knows how to get things done. She is a passionate advocate for seniors, youth, veterans, and community development. Whether organizing city-wide cleanups, hosting informative town halls, or supporting essential services during the COVID-19 pandemic, Tameika leads with both heart and action.
Tameika has spearheaded initiatives such as the first Vietnam Veterans Day Celebration, worked tirelessly to revitalize local parks, and continues to push for a state-of-the-art recreation facility for all residents.
Her leadership spans several city government committees, including but not limited to Planning & Grants, Health & Education, Recreation, Law & Legislation, and Public Safety. Tameika isn’t afraid to ask tough questions, stand up for what’s right, and work relentlessly for the people she represents.
A proud wife, mother of six, and grandmother of two, Tameika Garrett-Ward is deeply rooted in family, driven by purpose, and committed to a stronger, more united East Orange.
