Born to Haitian immigrants and raised in East Orange, New Jersey, Bergson “Berg” Leneus exemplifies the essence of resilience, leadership, and community commitment through his dedicated public service and professional excellence.

As a distinguished Rutgers University graduate, Councilman Leneus has established himself as a dynamic leader across multiple sectors including healthcare, government, education, and property management.

Councilman Leneus currently serves the residents of East Orange's Third Ward with distinction, making history in 2018 as the first Haitian American elected to office in the city. His leadership on the City Council has delivered tangible results for constituents, including:

• Chairmanship of the Finance Committee, where he orchestrated an efficient, robust, and thorough budget process that successfully reduced the municipal and county tax burden on East Orange residents

• Provided critical support and resources to numerous schools, non-profit organizations, and religious institutions throughout East Orange, strengthening the community's social infrastructure

• Supported legislation to make affordability a priority within the East Orange redevelopment plan

Prior to his Council service, Leneus demonstrated his commitment to public service through five impactful years on the East Orange Board of Education, including three years as Board President. His community engagement began with service on the East Orange YMCA Board, establishing a pattern of civic leadership that continues today.
