
Councilwoman Alicia Holman
5th Ward
Councilwoman Alicia Holman is a lifelong resident of East Orange and a dedicated public servant with over two decades of community and political leadership. A proud graduate of the East Orange public school system, she attended Clifford J. Scott High School before continuing her studies at Bloomfield College and Rutgers University. Her commitment to civic engagement began at age 18, and she has since become a key figure in local politics, serving as Chairwoman of the 5th Ward Democratic County Committee since 2002 and representing the 5th Ward on East Orange City Council since 2006.

Introduced landmark legislation to modernize local taxi and food truck operations.

Protect residents from inflated parking fees and ensure better parking access for veterans and individuals with disabilities.

As Chair of Arts, Recreation & Cultural Affairs, she introduced the “First Tee” youth golf program. She formed the Recreation Advisory Board, significantly improving parks and public spaces across East Orange.
Under her leadership, the city partnered with the New Jersey Nets to open a Fun & Fitness Center for youth and adults.

Beyond City Hall, Councilwoman Holman is deeply rooted in service. She works professionally as a youth program development specialist for Essex County’s Department of Citizen Services and is active in community and faith-based initiatives. She is a member of Abyssinian Baptist Church and volunteers with multiple local organizations to coordinate holiday dinners, youth mentorship programs, book bag giveaways, and artistic showcases.
Her partnerships with groups like Masjid As Haabul Yameen, 1000 Thankful Souls, and Urban Cyclery Shop have brought the community together through events like movie nights, talent shows, and the annual East Orange Bike Tour.
